Vista Business Center
Voit Development Company contracted with CFA in July 2004 to provide preliminary and final design for a ± 15-acre industrial business center. The site encompasses two parcels, located south of Prater Way on the west side of Vista Boulevard in the City of Sparks. The proposed business center is an infill project on a vacant lot within the approved Southern Pacific Industrial Park. The proposed development consists of four separate buildings with 32 individual units ranging in size from 5,000 to 17,000 square feet. The total building area for the four buildings will cover 270,552 square feet. CFA is providing planning, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying services for the project. CFA’s planning staff coordinated the submittals which included a special use permit and tentative map. The groundbreaking occurred in July 2005.

Mountain View Corporate Center

Mountain View Corporate Center
Mountain View Corporate Center is a 39-acre business park in Southwest Reno immediately west of U.S. 395 (I-580) and south of Del Monte Lane. The maximum allowable building square footage is 443,000 square feet, which is distributed between several buildings that range from one– to three-stories in height. The property is within a Specific Plan District and, as a result, a Design Standards Handbook was developed and approved by the city. The Handbook addresses landscaping, buffering, signage, lighting, fencing, and architecture.

Evans Creek runs through the property and conveys stormwater through the site. The creek was restored, and the open space along the creek connects the business park with Anderson Park to the west. The creek restoration received an award in 2004 from the Washoe County Design Review Committee.

Harley Davidson Financial Services
CFA prepared the civil and irrigation design for an 100,000 square foot, three-story office building on a 10-acre parcel within the Arrowhead Business Park in Carson City. The project included a 500-space parking lot for cars and motorcycles. Also part of the project was the widening of the roadway and the reconfiguration of the adjacent intersection to accommodate the acceleration, deceleration, and turning movements for the relatively high-traffic volumes.

Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center
This stand-alone building is part of the medical center campus in Carson City. CFA’s landscape architects worked with HMC Architects of Nevada. Landscaping reflected the planting palette used for the overall development plan. The 3+ acre site includes a small lawn area adjacent to a drainage channel, dry steambed, and street trees along the main access. Landscape installation was completed in Spring 2007.

Los Altos Medical Center
CFA’s landscape architects worked with the project architect, Lundahl & Associates, on this two-acre medical center located east of the intersection of Los Altos Parkway and Vista Boulevard in Sparks. The project consists of two medical buildings adjacent to residential on three sides. Since screening was essential, the majority of the plantings were placed around the site perimeter. Walls were required for grade changes along two sides of the facility. Plants selected were based on the requirement for a good year-round appearance. The project was completed in winter of 2007.

Social Security Facility

Social Security Administration Facility
CFA was responsible for the civil and landscape design for a new federal office building on Vassar Street near Harvard Way. The project included a 22,000 square foot single-story building on a 2-acre site with associated parking and security fencing. The building is located in a floodplain which required the use of flood protection measures. The site is located in an area of town that has inadequate storm drain facilities, which resulted in the use of on-site underground containment to mitigate the stormwater flow increases that resulted from the development of the parcel.

DEA Office Building at South Meadows

DEA Office Building at South Meadows
CFA contracted with SDA, Inc. in July 2003 to provide site design services for a new federal office building located within the South Meadows Business Park. CFA was charged with the task of providing a secure site for the employees of the Drug Enforcement Administration. CFA provided civil engineering, landscape architecture, construction observation, and surveying services. The civil engineering tasks included final design for grading, drainage, utilities, erosion control, and site improvements. Site access proved to be one of the major challenges of this project. Reinforced box culverts were designed to provide bridge access over existing drainage channels along Double R Boulevard and Technology Way. The landscape architectural design for this site had to meet the strict federal security requirements. This project required close coordination with the DEA, the City of Reno, Washoe County utilities, the Army Corp. of Engineers, and the South Meadows Business Owners’ Association. The project was completed in the summer of 2004.

    Spanish Springs Business Center
The Spanish Springs Business Center will be one of the major employment centers in the Spanish Springs Valley. The idea for an employment center in the northern portion of the Spanish Springs Valley was first conceived in the Spanish Springs Specific Plan. In that plan, 411 acres of business park development were situated around the periphery of Boneyard Flat. To assure overall high-quality development, design guidelines that address architecture, landscaping, signage, lighting, and site planning were developed. CFA, in conjunction with Robert Sader Ltd., were responsible for the preparation of the Spanish Springs Specific Plan, the approvals, and the subsequent preparation of the Spanish Springs Business Center Design Guidelines.
